Trying to Breathe on a Hard Day

Trying to Breathe on a Hard Day

Today was an awfully hard day.

The kind where you shed tears, wipe them off, and hide all the pain, because that segment of your life just can’t function with the true version of you that day.

I wanted to quit, turn the car around, and hide from the world today.

Normally, I’d absolutely numb myself into oblivion on a day like today. I’d open up Instagram, binge watch more food videos than I could handle, and completely ignore any to-do list that mattered.

Work would pile up. Dishes would pile up. Laundry would cry in the corner.

Our cats would appear quiet and sad, as they slept in the lonely shadows, waiting patiently for someone to show them affection.

Today was the kind of day, where you compare yourself to anyone and everyone, yet somehow, never quite measure up.

Losing every battle in your heart, while depression sinks it roots deep into an impressionable mind.

Where no part of you feels like enough.

Except you are. You just forgot, because remembering exists on an equilibrium.

Avoiding the negative habits on a day like today is the ultimate victory, because you feel that much more ready to tackle life again tomorrow.

Today, I didn't just ignore them. I replaced them.

I walked in the beautiful cool weather. I trained despite all odds. I found some way to show up, smile, share wisdom with others, eat a wholesome dinner, and spend quality time with my family.

This story used to end so differently.

Today, I rewrote it.

You can re-write your days, too.

Here’s to planting beautiful new seeds in the garden.
