2 Week Doom Scrolling Detox Update: Thoughts and Reflections

Written 1:38AM October 27th

It’s been a roller coaster ride these past few weeks. I’ve had everything from moments of profound joy, depths of depression, clarity, chaos, difficult life challenges, adorable highs of being a new mom, breakthroughs in marriage, and today, a near death experience of my husband after he went into anaphylactic shock from a new medication.

Yup, life can be really messy. Just like our baby’s poopy diaper that got all over the freshly washed sheets at 1AM this morning. I’ll spare you the picture of what looks like a mustardy crime scene, and I’m sure other new parents can relate.

Aside from realizing how important this cause is, I’ve realized deeply after reading my other posts to my husband this evening, that life is so full of ups and downs.

It’s strange to recount all the twists and turns of this journey, and hindsight is 20:20, as they say.

In the words of Forest Gump.. Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get.

While we couldn’t have predicted the chaos that would unfold in life, business, and parenthood, I’m really grateful that I was so much more present through it all.

Today marked a big milestone for this little blog, too.

All the posts were finally published, which means we’re officially launched!

I actually had to launch it, since I’m using Ghost as a blogging platform, and I genuinely couldn’t even read my drafts without finally adding a subscription to my account.

In my dark millennial humor.. there’s nothing like a near death experience of a loved one to really kick life change into gear!

So not only did my husband thankfully survive anaphylaxis, I got to read all my hard work from the last few weeks to him in the candlelight at the end of the day.

I’d consider that a huge success.

We made it through arguably one of the most insane days we’ve had in a while, and while we couldn’t have anticipated the massive mess that awaited us just ten minutes after reading everything.. I’m so grateful for his health, his life, and this huge new change I’ve undertaken.

So even if your day ended in a poopy mess, like mine did…

Just remember, there is always a silver lining to be found.

On the poopiest of days, (and any day really) being present and there for your loved ones is the greatest victory.

Someday, those could be the memories you’ll laugh about and cherish the most.

It’s really easy to forget how much of an impact we have on others lives. How much our company means to our spouse, family, friends, and pets, too.

We don’t need to be influencers to have accomplished something great.

Showing up is more than enough.

If you find yourself thinking that your efforts are futile, just remember that.

Remember the smiles you could miss out on. The laughs you’ll have from those moments of pure connection.

Remind yourself that the tasks that piled up on the to do list (the fun and the boring ones) really are a big deal.

They’re building blocks towards a better tomorrow, and every single one is a crucial piece to a resilient foundation.

They all matter, and if you stick with it, you’ll understand why.

Is it a coincidence that I’m finally doing laundry regularly? That I’m actually mopping our floors on a regular basis now? That some long lasting marital issues are being resolved? That I feel a huge difference in my son’s demeanor towards me, and I feel a huge change in connection to my cats, too?

If this is after two weeks, imagine what two months will bring. Then two years.

My point is, that I doubted myself so many times. I even watched a few reels for a brief few minutes today for the first time, admittedly, because I deeply missed the escape, and it was a freaking hard day.

But this cause? It’s worth fighting for. I’m reminded of that so much more after reading everything, and reflecting.

Start your journey, however messy. No matter how poopy your day is.. it can still end with fresh clean sheets!

Stay tuned. Stay reminded. Stay on track.

Until next time, butterflies.
